I was selected to be the Featured Blogger of the Month over at Biblioblogs.com, which includes an in depth and engaging interview. It should provide some helpful background if you wonder why I do what I do. Thanks to John Hobbins for the opportunity. I may do some Hebrew blogging this year out of respect.
Now, I just sit back and wait for the commercial endorsements to roll in, and hopefully throwing out the first pitch at a baseball game. They usually give you a team jacket!
Great interview. I really enjoyed your thoughts. But I was still wondering whether you prefer/enjoy/are more proficient in Greek or Hebrew and also maybe some aspects of either language that you have found particularly fascinating in your studies.
I would say that my Greek skills are stronger at this point, but I probably enjoy Hebrew more. The last two years have really opened my eyes to Greek, and there is probably much more to do in Greek than in BH. The Hebrew scholars have been doing this kind of work for more than 20 years. This difference was what initially lead me away from Greek and into the Hebrew Bible. I did not find NT studies engaging. I still think of myself as a carpenter that reads a lot, not really as a scholar. I have only been “white collar” for a little over two years. I enjoy the work, but it still feels strange being at a desk. I found a very special 16d nail today when cleaning off my dresser. Three years ago I shot it through my leather glove, through my finger and out the other side a couple years ago. I have been shot in the foot and face, fallen off several roofs, smashed toes and fingers (called “doing my nails” because of the discoloration), and multiple lacerations, including severing tendons in my wrist with Mr. SkilSaw. I do not miss that part, typing and parsing are good. Thanks for the comment.
