Thanks for the interesting post.  Discourse analysis is something that I would like to put some time into.

What affect does the rhyming pattern of the hymn have on word order?  Might it be that, in the line &quot;And should I fainting be,&quot; the fronting of &quot;fainting&quot; (even if partly for emphasis) may actually be primarily determined by the constraint of needing to rhyme with &quot;thee&quot; two lines below?</description>
